The Best Zelda Games

by Dylan - first posted May 27, 2013

My all time favorite gaming series is The Legend Of Zelda. Everything from the story, to the music and atmosphere, to the gameplay have always captivated me and achieved the ultimate goal of being wicked fun and entertaining. The following is my personal list of the Best Zelda Games Released to Date.

#10: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords

Four Swords is the only game on this list that does not meet my own personal criteria for a great game. It has a boring and simple story, is a very short game, and consists of almost no atmosphere. So why is it on this list? Gameplay. This is the only Zelda Multiplayer game and it is an absolute blast! I had tons of fun playing with friends to solve some of the pizzles and hope they make another game like this.

#9: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Phantom Hourglass is the only Zelda I’ve played on the NDS. It has it’s ups and downs but overall I really enjoyed the story and emmersion of the game as well as the updated handheld graphics and controls of the NDS.

#8: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

I loved the art direction of Minish Cap. Simple and clean creates great visuals and an enjoying atmosphere to explore. The dungeons were surprisingly tricky and I had a blast trying to solve them all (even had to use the internet a few times!).

#7: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The story and atmosphere are what make Skyward Sword such an amazing game. It was very interesting getting an origin story for many of our favorite characters and it even (somewhat) help explains some of the chronology in the series.

#6: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Although the original Zelda was a great game, I was completely blown away when I first played A Link To The Past. The rich story, great music, and engaging gameplay make playing this one of my fondest memories.I’d recommend getting this for the GBA for extra features and a graphical overhaul.

#5: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Confession: I haven’t beaten this yet (playing right now!). Even so this game has captivated me with an atmosphere and story so epic that only Majora’s Mask can rival it. Midna, you my girl.

#4: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

Seasons was just so good I can’t even explain it. I’ll still try though.Everything from the art and music, to Subrosia, and even the rings made this a fantastic game worth replaying. Ages was a great game as well, but Seasons takes my heart.

#3: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time

HAHAHAHAHAHA bet you thought this was going in the number one spot! I do love this game after all (It’s #3 after all), and it was the first Zelda for the N64. surpassing everyone’s expectations. The graphics and atmosphere were rendered so beautifully that they still wow me today.Great story about the Hero of Time, and some of the greatest dungeons/boss’ to date.

#2: The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

Links Awakening is actually the first Zelda I ever played. So maybe I’m a little biased towards it. Either way this is a game that I could play in another ten years and still enjoy the story and music, and struggle just as much with the dungeons as the first time I ever played it.And such a sad yet beautiful story.

#1: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

The best Zelda game of all time. If you want more proof then read The True Message Behind Majora’s Mask and be amazed. Not only is the main story arch amazing, but all of the side quests (looking at you Anju & Kafei) are heart felt and meaningful as well. Majora’s mask consists of a great musical score, and the abilities to become a Deku Scrub, Goron, and Zora are so cool.

Honorable Mention: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (I never played it).

Well this is my top 10. Feel free to leave a comment about your Zelda memories and experiences.
