T.V is great; I like T.V. In fact, I like T.V so much that some of my favourite shows are actually T.V shows within a T.V show.
This concept may sound meta and rare, but it’s surprising how many of our popular series contain their own little in-universe programmes.
All My Circuits – Futurama
All My Circuits is a soap opera featuring ample amounts of amnesia, that is primarily targeted towards robots. All My Circuits is famous for starring the greatest acting unit ever created, Calculon.
Ghostfacers – Supernatural
In the Supernatural universe, everything from a ghost to freaking Satan is real, and the Winchester brothers are some of the only people privy to this as they battle supernatural entities while trying to keep their existence a secret. The Ghostfacers are some wet behind the ears, self-proclaimed ‘supernatural experts’ attempting to find evidence of ghosts to create a new reality show – and need to get their behinds saved by the brothers countless times because of this. GHOST – GHOST-FACERS!
Terrance and Phillip – South Park
South Park is known for thought-provoking satire and knowing just where to poke the stick to do the most harm. This makes it all the more confusing that Terrance and Phillip are flappy headed comedic brothers from Canada who literally do nothing but swear and make fart jokes.
The Itchy and Scratchy Show – The Simpsons
A much more violent version of The Tom and Jerry Show, The Itchy and Scratchy Show is a children’s show that the Simpson children love to watch.
Inspector Spacetime – Community
Abed is a HUGE lover of film, and is delighted when he discovers the wonders of Inspector Spacetime. Inspector Spacetime is a science fiction television programme that’s been on the air for over 50 years and is essentially an homage to Doctor Who with countless references and parallels. I could go and list them all but, this is hardly the time. Or is it hardly…the space?
The Krusty the Clown Show – The Simpsons
Hey-hey! The Krusty the Klown Show started off as a serious talk show, but soon devolved into a children’s entertainment show. The show involves slapstick humor, comedy skits starring members of the show, and occasional special guest stars.
Tool Time – Home Improvement
What time is it? It’s Tool Time! Tool Time was the name of the show that
Tool Time was the name of the show that Home Improvement‘s protagonist Tim Taylor hosted with his best friend Al Borland.
The Scary Door – Futurama
You are entering the vicinity of an area adjacent to a location. The kind of place where there might be a monster, or some kind of weird mirror. These are just examples; it could also be something much better. Prepare to enter: The Scary Door.
Pucks – Episodes
Time to get super meta. Pucks is a tv show within a tv show about making a tv show – starring Matt LeBlanc. Episodes is about a British couple who move to L.A to begin filming their new show called Lyman’s Boys. The studio, however, forces the casting of Matt LeBlanc, who promptly changes everything about the show, including renaming it Pucks instead of Lyman’s Boys due to making to show about himself as a Hockey coach.
Hypnotoad – Futurama
ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD
